EU greenhouse gas emission cuts are on track to meet Kyoto Protocol target

EU greenhouse gas (GHG) emission levels in 2011 were consistent with a decreasing trend observed since 2004, according to the European Commission's annual report on the European Union's progress toward meeting its Kyoto Protocol target for reducing GHG emissions. GHG emissions in the 27 EU countries decreased by 18% despite a 48% increase in GDP in the region since 1990, the commission says.
