UK shale gas resources are double previous estimates

The United Kingdom's shale gas resources are far greater than previously estimated, according to a UK government report, released today. The report, prepared by the British Geological Survey (BGS; Nottingham) for the Department of Energy and Climate Change (London), says that the Bowland Shale, covering mainly central and northern England, may contain about 1,300 trillion cubic feet of gas—double previous estimates.
