Researchers discover enzyme potentially able to yield better plants for biofuel production

An international collaboration of plant scientists from the Flanders Institute for Biotechnology (VIB; Ghent, Belgium), Ghent University, the University of Dundee (Dundee, UK), the James Hutton Institute (Dundee), and the University of Wisconsin (Madison) has identified a new gene in the biosynthetic pathway of lignin, a major component of plant secondary cell walls that limits the conversion of biomass to energy, VIB announced.
