Poor PVC demand reflected in low EU chlorine capacity utilization in December

European chlorine production was down in December, according to the latest figures published by industry association Euro Chlor (Brussels) today. European chlorine capacity utilization stood at 73.5% in December, down 5.5 percentage points from the previous month, albeit slightly higher than during December 2011, when utlization stood at 72.3%.    “The calculated chlorine value going into polyvinyl chloride [PVC], which uses a third of the European chlorine production, was negative for all 12 months of 2011, averaging minus €70/m.t...
