Higher Sales Lift Most European Chemical Company Profits

Most late-reporting European chemical companies posted sales and earnings increases for the second quarter and first half. Higher sales volumes and improved cost management helped to drive gains, companies say. Bayer reported second-quarter net income up 46%, to €660 million ($884.5 million), on sales up 22%, to €8.2 billion. The Bayer HealthCare unit drove the sales and earnings improvements, Bayer says.
