Grangemouth: Crunch today as Ineos considers split workforce vote

The confrontation between Ineos, owner of the Grangemouth, UK, refinery and petrochemical site and the Unite union comes to a head today after about half the complex’s 1,370 workers apparently rejected Ineos’s survival plan. The proposal includes abandoning the final salary pension plan, reduced shift payments, and other cost reductions. The plan was put directly to the workforce, bypassing the union, for acceptance or rejection by the evening of 21 October, but Unite asked its members to reply directly to the union.
