Regions :: Western Europe EU proposes major cuts in fluorinated gas emissions9:14 AM MST | November 7, 2012 | Sotirios Frantzanas The European Commission has announced proposals to reduce European Union emissions of fluorinated gases (F-gases) by two-thirds, through 2030, compared with today's levels. The proposed regulation would also ban the use of F-gases in some new equipment, such as household refrigerators, where viable, more climate-friendly alternatives are readily available. This is an important step toward the European Union's long-term climate objectives, because F-gas emissions have a global warming effect up to 23,000 times more powerful than carbon dioxide, and they have risen...
