EFSA opens public consultation on dietary reference values for iodine

The European Food Safety Authority (EFSA; Parma, Italy) has launched an open consultation on the draft scientific opinion on dietary reference values for iodine, at the request of the European Commission, the authority says. The draft document proposes dietary reference values for iodine for adults, infants and children, and pregnant and lactating women. The consultation is open until 26 February. Iodine plays an important role, through thyroid hormones, in energy-yielding metabolism and on the expression of genes that impact many physiological processes...
