Chemicals output declines in the EU but industry confidence rises

Chemicals production declined 1.1% in the European Union in the first eight months of 2013 compared with the same period of last year, Cefic says. Monthly production slipped 0.5% in August compared with August 2012. Petrochemicals registered the steepest decline in monthly output of any chemical segment, decreasing 3.2% in August compared with the year-earlier month. Production of basic inorganics and specialty chemicals each declined 1.9% year-on-year (YOY) in August but output of consumer chemicals and polymers increased 1.5% and 0.5%, respectively, Cefic says...
