Cefic Cautions EU Against Plan to Increase GHG Reduction Target11:40 AM MDT | March 14, 2011 | Alex Scott Industry aims to preempt a move by the EU to formally adopt a policy to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions 25% from 1990 levels by 2020, compared with the current target to reduce GHGs 20% by 2020. The commission concludes that reducing the bloc’s carbon emissions by 25% by 2020 would be more cost effective policy in the long term. Cefic says an increased target would be counterproductive because it creates uncertainties in an already unstable, post-crisis business environment.
