AkzoNobel Divests Calcium Carbide Business

SKW Stahl-Metallurgie Holding (Unterneukirchen, Germany) has agreed to acquire Carbide Sweden (Stockvik) from AkzoNobel for an undisclosed amount. Carbide Sweden produces calcium carbide, used in the production of acetylene gas, at Stockvik. Acetylene is used mainly for welding. Calcium carbide is also used in steel production.
