Solvay Starts Chlor-Alk in Brazil

Solvay says its Solvay Indupa (Buenos Aires) subsidiary has started up the previously announced $150-million expansion of its 170,000 m.t./year chlor-alkali unit at Santo André, Brazil. The membrane-cell, chlor-alkali unit (MCA) will replace a mercury-based unit, which has been deactivated. The new unit will feed downstream vinyl chloride monomer (VCM) and polyvinyl chloride (PVC) units. The Santo André plant now has total VCM and PVC production capacity of 300,000...
