Sanofi-Aventis to Acquire Top Brazilian Generics Firm for €500 million

Sanofi-Aventis (Paris) says it has signed an agreement to acquire Medley (Campinas, Brazil), the leading generic player and the third largest pharmaceutical company in Brazil, for a total of about €500 million ($665 million). This acquisition will enable Sanofi-Aventis to become the leading player in the field of generics in Brazil and in Latin America, and it will also reinforce its number one ranking among pharmaceutical companies in Brazil, with a total 12% market share, Sanofi-Aventis says.
