Reports: Vale seeks fertilizer partner, plans to advance potash projects in Brazil, Canada

Vale (Rio de Janeiro) is seeking a partner for its fertilizer business as it plans to replace the 4 million m.t. of potash it stands to lose from the cancelled Rio Colorado project in Argentina, says Murilo Ferreira, CEO, as quoted in various media reports. Details have not been disclosed. Vale's Carnalita potash project in the Brazilian state of Sergipe and its Kronau mine in Canada had not been, until recently, a priority for the company, which has focused on reducing costs outside of its core iron ore business.
