Oxiteno's earnings up 35% on weaker Brazilian currency, favorable sales mix

Oxiteno, the chemicals business of Ultrapar (São Paulo), has posted Ebitda for the first quarter of 109 million reais ($49.2 million), up 35% year-on-year (YOY) mainly because of the weaker Brazilian currency and a more favorable sales mix. Net profits have not been disclosed. Oxiteno's revenues in the first quarter totaled R$840 million, up 11% YOY. Lower glycol volumes partially offset higher specialty chemical sales in the Brazilian market. Oxiteno’s sales volume in the first quarter totaled 191,000 m.t., down 4% YOY.
