Kvaerner Lands Petrobras PTA Contract

Petrobras and Brazil-based Companhia Integrada Têxtil do Nordeste (Citene) say they have selected Aker Kvaerner to carry out basic and detailed engineering design, and provide offshore procurement services, for a purified terephthalic acid (PTA) project at Pernambuco, Brazil. The companies have formed a 50-50 joint venture, dubbed PetroquimicaSuape, to operate the plant. Petrobras and Citene will together invest more than $500 million to build the plant, which will produce 640,000 m.t./year of PTA. Construction has already begun, and the plant is scheduled...
