Braskem’s First-Quarter Profits Fall

Braskem reported first-quarter net profits down 35%, to R$83 million ($49 million), compared with the same year-ago period. Consolidated Ebitda fell 32%, to R$583 million, due to higher naptha costs and lower aromatics sales, but was partially offset by growth in domestic resin sales and higher selling prices. Sales were flat at R$4.4 billion.
