Regions :: South America :: Brazil Braskem to Begin Sourcing Naphtha Made from Recycled Plastic10:28 AM MDT | July 22, 2011 | Kara Sissell Braskem will begin sourcing some of its naphtha from post-consumption recycled plastic for use at the company’s complex at Camaçari, in northern Brazil. Novaenergia (Salvador), a waste treatment firm, will supply the raw material. Braskem will invest about $25 million ($11.2 million) in a related recycling unit, slated for start up at Camaçari by the end of 2012. The move is part of a broader strategy by Braskem to increase its use of renewable feedstocks. Its 200,000 m.t./year unit at Triunfo uses ethanol derived from sugarcane, and the...
