Regions :: South America :: Brazil Braskem Suspends Caprolactam at Brazil Unit11:16 AM MDT | May 22, 2009 | DEEPTI RAMESH Braskem (São Paulo) says it has suspended caprolactam production at Camaçari, Brazil, and that it will temporarily deactivate the product’s manufacturing unit due to poor profitability. Most of the caprolactam produced at the unit was sold on the international market, which has lost liquidity since mid-2008 as a result of the global economic crisis and the credit shortage, Braskem says. The company says it has had to drastically reduce operating rates at the plant, which resulted in reduced profit margins and made it unfeasible to continue...
