Biodiesel Firm Invests in Glycerin

Integrated Biodiesel Industries (IBI; São Paulo) says it will invest $300,000 to acquire a former chemical plant at Jau, Brazil and convert it into a 20,000-m.t./year glycerin processing plant. IBI says it plans to produce distilled glycerin for cosmetics and paints, and glycerin carbonate, a renewable solvent that can replace volatile organic compounds and propylene glycol.
