Amyris Narrows Third-Quarter Loss, Secures Project Funding from Brazil

Synthetic biology firm Amyris (Emeryville, CA) posted a net loss of $44 million it its third fiscal quarter ended September, 30, compared with a loss of $62 million in the same year-ago period. Sales increased 50%, to $26 million. The company is ramping up production of farnesene, a 15-carbon molecule produced from plant-based sugars that can be used a platform chemical for producing fuels, polymers, and a number of specialty chemicals.  "We have farnesene production underway and finishing operations in place for our squalane and diesel,” said...
