Vale Plans $6-Billion Potash Project for Argentina

The board of directors at mining giant Vale (Rio de Janeiro) has approved 2012 investments of $21.4 billion, including $1.08 billion in 2012 for the 4.3 million m.t./year Rio Colorado potash project at Mendoza, Argentina. The total capital investment for that project, slated to come onstream in second half 2014, is nearly $6 billion. The money will fund in part 440 kilometers of railway tracks, construction of a railway spur, and a maritime terminal, Vale says.
