Taiwan’s CPC Changes its Name

Taiwanese state-owned refining and petrochemicals company Chinese Petroleum Corp. (CPC; Taipei) has renamed itself CPC Corporation, Taiwan. The change is one of several cooperative actions taken by government-run enterprises that had names containing the words “China,” “Chinese,” or “Chunghwa,” the transliteration of Chinese in Mandarin, in response to calls by the government to eliminate confusion between Taiwan and China. “Keeping the China name might create confusion and eventually missed business opportunities,”...
