Taiwan Cancels Major Petchems Project

The Taiwanese government has decided to postpone indefinitely the previously announced Kuokuang Petrochemical Technology Co.'s multi-billion dollar petrochemical project, CW has learned. Sources, speaking on the sidelines of the APIC 2011 conference at Fukuoka, Japan, have told CW that after strong protests from environmentalists, Taiwan's president, Ma Ying-jeou, has instructed the company not to proceed with the project, which would have been built on reclaimed land at Changhua, 100 km north of Kaohsiung.  The project could be...
