Formosa Refinery Blaze Shuts Down Part of Mailiao Complex (Updated)

Formosa Petrochemicals Corp. has shut down its 540,000 bbl/day refinery at Mailiao, Taiwan, following a fire at the weekend, according to a company spokesman. The closure has affected one-third of Formosa's production capacity. The fire started at the company's residue desulfurization (RDS) unit in Formosa's second refinery at Mailiao. It was the third fire this year at the company's Mailiao complex and the local Yunlin Environmental Protection Bureau issued a NT$1 million ($31,157) fine to Formosa in accordance with the air pollution control act and demanded the...
