Overall economic growth in the East Asian region—defined as China, Korea, and Taiwan—will slip from 8.5% in 2007, to 8% in 2008, according to a recent report by the Asian Development Bank (ADB; Manila). Growth in the ASEAN countries will also slow, to 6.1% in 2008 from 6.3% in 2007, ADB says. Rising oil prices and slower growth in industrialized economies, together with volatility in financial markets, are contributing to the slowdown, ADB says.
