Lotte Daesan Starts Up EO-EG Plant Using Shell’s Novel Process

Lotte Daesan Petrochemical (Seoul), a subsidiary of Honam Petrochemical, has started production at a 400,000-m.t./year ethylene glycol (EG) plant at Daesan, Korea. It is the first facility to use Shell Chemicals’ Omega ethylene oxide–ethylene glycol (EO-EG) technology, Shell says. The technology uses a proprietary catalyst to convert EO to EG, instead of the traditional thermal conversion process.
