Tosoh Reports Huge Rise in Profits

Tosoh has recorded a more than four-fold increase in net profits for its fiscal first half ended September 30, 2011 compared with the year-ago period, to ¥9.9 billion ($128.5 million). Sales increased 14.2%, to ¥367.7 billion. During the fiscal first half, selling prices increased in international markets for caustic soda, polyvinyl chloride (PVC) resin, urethane raw materials, and other major products of the company, and selling prices also increased in Japan, due to a rise in the cost of naphtha, Tosoh says.
