Sinopec maintained its position as Asia’s biggest chemical company in 2005, topping CW’s ranking of Asian chemical firms by sales for a second successive year (table, p. 25). The company extended its lead over the second placed firm, Mitsubishi Chemical, and recorded chemical sales of more than $20 billion. Sinopec is joined in the group of leading Asian chemical producers by another Chinese company, PetroChina, which makes its debut in CW’s ranking due to the first-time availability of a sales figure for PetroChina’s chemicals business...
