Tokuyama reports huge rise in profits

Tokuyama (Tokyo) reports a 76.5% rise in net profits for the company's fiscal first quarter, ended 30 June 2014, compared with the year-ago quarter, to ¥3.57 billion ($34.8 million). First-quarter sales increased 10.6%, to ¥71.21 billion. Sales increased due to higher sales volumes of cement and caustic soda and higher selling prices for petrochemical products and caustic soda, as well as stronger sales of active pharmaceutical ingredients, Tokuyama says.
