Sumitomo Chemical and Hitachi Metals to collaborate in exhaust-gas filters business

Sumitomo Chemical and Hitachi Metals (Tokyo) say that they have reached a basic agreement to begin studying opportunities for their cooperation on a particulate filter, a new type of exhaust-gas filter jointly developed by the two companies. Sumitomo, based on its technological expertise in the business of inorganic materials including alumina products, developed an aluminum titanate particulate filter with properties such as thermal shock resistance and soot mass limit from internal combustion engines in automobiles and other machinery, the companies say.
