Sumco Plant Remains Offline

Sumco (Tokyo), a manufacturer of silicon wafers for semiconductors, says that its manufacturing plant at Yonezawa in Yamagata prefecture continues to be offstream. Operations at the plant were suspended following the powerful earthquake and tsunami that struck northeastern Japan on March 11. Inspection of the plant revealed some damage to buildings and equipment, and repair and restoration work is currently underway, Sumco says.
