Regions :: North Asia :: Japan Sumco Plant Remains Offline3:00 AM MDT | March 30, 2011 | Deepti Ramesh Sumco (Tokyo), a manufacturer of silicon wafers for semiconductors, says that its manufacturing plant at Yonezawa in Yamagata prefecture continues to be offstream. Operations at the plant were suspended following the powerful earthquake and tsunami that struck northeastern Japan on March 11. Inspection of the plant revealed some damage to buildings and equipment, and repair and restoration work is currently underway, Sumco says. The company says it is preparing to restart the operation of equipments confirmed to be undamaged. Sumco intends to restart operations...
