Showa Denko JV Starts Construction of Chemical Alumina Plant in Indonesia

Showa Denko and mining company Antam (Jakarta) have started building the previously announced chemical alumina plant at Tayan in West Kalimantan province, Indonesia. The two companies, in August 2010, had announced their plans to build the joint venture plant, and they agreed to invest $450 million in the project. The plant will have capacity to produce 300,000 m.t./year of chemical alumina, using bauxite ores in West Kalimantan. The plant is expected to begin operations in January 2014.
