Regions :: North Asia :: Japan Shin-Etsu’s Shirakawa Plant Starts Operating at Full Capacity12:04 AM MDT | July 5, 2011 | Deepti Ramesh Shin-Etsu Chemical says that the Shirakawa plant of its Shin-Etsu Handotai subsidiary has started operating at full capacity. Shin-Etsu Handotai manufactures and sells silicon wafers for semiconductors. Operations at the Shirakawa plant, where production was suspended since the earthquake and tsunami that struck Japan on March 11, were partially restarted on April 20. IHS iSuppli (El Segundo, CA) estimates that Shin-Etsu’s Shirakawa plant accounts for 20% of global supply of silicon wafers for semiconductors. Shin-Etsu says its optical fiber preform plant...
