Shin-Etsu reports rise in profits, sales

Shin-Etsu Chemical reports a 14.5% increase in net profits for the fiscal first half, ended 30 September, compared with the year-ago period, to ¥63.82 billion ($654 million). First-half sales increased 6.5%, to ¥572.18 billion. During the fiscal first half, the United States gradually recovered, but Europe's economy continued to stagnate and Asia faced an economic slowdown. The Japanese economy began to recover with growing exports to the United States and a rise in consumer spending, which were partly offset by lower exports to Asia and Europe, Shin-Etsu...
