Shin-Etsu reports rise in profits and sales

Shin-Etsu Chemical reports a 7.5% rise in net profits for the fiscal year ended 31 March 2014 compared with the previous fiscal year, to ¥113.61 billion ($1.1 billion). Full-year sales increased 13.7%, to ¥1.16 trillion. Fourth-quarter figures have not been disclosed. During the fiscal year, although a gradual recovery continued in the United States, emerging economies, particularly in Asia, were sluggish, and stagnation in the European economy continued partly due to the impact of the financial problems, Shin-Etsu says.
