Shin-Etsu reports rise in profits and sales

Shin-Etsu Chemical reports a 10.9% rise in net profits for the nine-month period ended 31 December 2013 compared with the year-ago period, to ¥92.53 billion ($901.8 million). Sales increased 11.4%, to ¥872 billion. Third-quarter figures have not been disclosed. During the first three quarters of the fiscal year, the United States gradually recovered, but Europe's economy continued to stagnate because of its financial problems, and Asian economies slowed, Shin-Etsu says.
