Regions :: North Asia :: Japan Shin-Etsu Records a Slight Increase in Profits4:14 AM MDT | April 26, 2012 | Deepti Ramesh Shin-Etsu Chemical reported a 0.5% increase in net profits for the fiscal year ended March 31, 2012, compared with the previous fiscal year, to ¥100.64 billion ($1.24 billion). Sales decreased 1%, to ¥1.047 trillion. Fourth-quarter results were not disclosed. During the fiscal year, the Japanese economy continued to face a challenging environment, due to the impact of the earthquake and tsunami that hit Japan in March 2011, the floods in Thailand, and also because of the appreciation of the Japanese currency, Shin-Etsu says.
