Mitsui Reports Fall in Profits

Mitsui Chemicals reported a 34% fall in net profits for the fiscal first quarter ended June 30, 2011, compared with the year-ago period, to ¥12.3 billion ($155 million). Sales increased 14%, to ¥386.7 billion. Revenues at Mitsui’s basic chemicals segment increased 37%, ¥140.5 billion, and the segment’s operating profits more than tripled, to ¥12.9 billion.
