Mitsui Chemicals swings to profit

Mitsui Chemicals has posted net profits of ¥1 billion ($10.2 million) for its fiscal first half, ended 30 September, compared with a net loss of ¥15.3 billion in the year-earlier period, on sales up 7.5%, to ¥731.6 billion. Sales increased, despite lower sales volumes in the petrochemicals and basic chemicals businesses, because of the rise in selling prices of products in response to an increase in the price of naphtha and other raw materials as well as the weaker Japanese currency, Mitsui says.
