Mitsui Chemicals reports fall in profits

Mitsui Chemicals reports a 27.6% fall in net profits for the fiscal first quarter, ended 30 June, compared with the year-ago quarter, to ¥3.4 billion ($33 million). Sales in the first quarter increased 7.2%, to ¥389.2 billion, because of an increase in sales volume with the improved production in the petrochemicals segment, additional sales from the dental materials business, which was acquired last year, and an increase in selling prices due to the rise in feedstock prices and the weaker Japanese currency, Mitsui says.
