Mitsubishi Gas Chemical to close Niigata ammonia plant

Mitsubishi Gas Chemical says it has decided to close permanently its ammonia plant based at Niigata City, Japan at the end of July 2015. The 132,000 m.t./year plant has been in operation since 1957 and costs too much to maintain. In addition, the plant’s efficiency has gone down because of a decline in domestic demand for ammonia, the company says. Mitsubishi Gas Chemical will also discontinue production of liquefied carbon dioxide and dry ice, by-products made in ammonia manufacture.   The closure forms part of Mitsubishi Gas Chemical’s mid-term...
