Fire at Tosoh’s VCM Plant in Japan Kills One

Tosoh says that a fire broke out following an explosion at about 3.24 p.m. yesterday at the company’s No. 2 vinyl chloride monomer (VCM) plant at Nanyo in Yamaguchi Prefecture, Japan. An employee has been killed as a result of the incident, Tosoh tells CW. The fire has now been extinguished, but the cause of the accident is not yet clear, the company says.
