Fire at Mitsui Plant Kills One, Injures 21; Production Suspended (Update)

Mitsui Chemicals says that a fire broke out following an explosion at about 2.15 a.m. on April 22 at the company’s resorcinol plant in Mitsui’s ‘Iwakuni-Ohtake’ production complex at Waki, Yamaguchi Prefecture, Japan. An employee has been killed and 21 people, including 10 community residents, have been injured as a result of the incident, Mitsui says. The fire spread to the cymene plant and utility piping rack in the complex and at 8.05 a.m. on April 22, an explosion also occurred in the resorcinol plant tank. The fire at all plants was...
