Evonik JV to expand specialty silica capacity in Japan

Evonik Industries says it will expand specialty silica production capacity at Ako, Japan, through its DSL Japan joint venture with Shionogi & Co. (Osaka). Evonik holds a 51% stake in DSL Japan. The expansion, with an investment volume in the single-digit million-euro range, is scheduled to become operational in 2015, Evonik says. The specialty silicas of the Evonik Sipernat brand are used in products such as batteries, silicones, engineered rubber items, and coatings.
