Asahi Kasei reports huge rise in profits

Asahi Kasei reports a more than doubling in net profits for the fiscal first half, ended 30 September, compared with the year-ago period, to ¥46.64 billion ($476 million). First-half sales increased 16.7%, to ¥918.9 billion, because of a good performance in the company’s homes segment, higher sales volumes in the company's chemicals segment and for pharmaceutical products in the health-care segment, and because of higher exports as a result of the weaker yen, Asahi says.
