Asahi Kasei Starts Slitting Facility for Li-Ion Battery Separators in China

Asahi Kasei says its Asahi Kasei E-materials (Tokyo) subsidiary has begun commercial operations at a new slitting facility for the company’s Hipore brand lithium-ion (Li-ion) battery separators, at Suzhou, China. Hipore is a microporous polyolefin sheet placed between the battery’s anode and cathode. In case of overheating, the separator provides a fuse function by melting to close the micropores, preventing the passage of lithium ions and shutting off battery operation.
