Asahi Glass to supply novel refrigerant to Honeywell, will build plant

Asahi Glass (Tokyo) announced today that it has agreed to supply Honeywell with hydrofluoroolefin (HFO)-1234yf, a car air-conditioning refrigerant, which has significantly lower environmental impact than other automotive refrigerants. Asahi Glass plans to build a new manufacturing plant using proprietary fluorochemical technology at its Chiba, Japan manufacturing complex, and start supplying the new refrigerant from about the middle of 2015. Honeywell last month announced plans to invest $300 million in a new HFO 1234yf plant at its Geismar, LA complex...
