Mitsui Chemicals’ loss widens

Mitsui Chemicals reported a net loss of ¥9.7 billion ($105 million) for the 9 months ended 31 December 2012, compared with a net loss of ¥200 million in the same period of the previous year. Nine-month sales decreased by 8.4%, to ¥1 trillion, mainly because of a ¥62.0-billion decrease in sales in the company’s basic chemicals segment as a consequence of an explosion at the company’s Iwakuni-Ohtake production complex at Waki, Japan.
