Stakeholder consultation starts on five RoHS exemption requests

An online stakeholder consultation has started on five requests for exemptions to the Restriction of Hazardous Substances in Electrical and Electronic Equipment (RoHS), the Institute for Applied Ecology (Freiburg, Germany) says. Instrumentation Laboratory (Bedford, MA) manufactures a family of analyzers used for testing blood in hospitals. The analyzers use a sensor card made of polyvinyl chloride (PVC) in a disposable cartridge. The PVC contains lead, which is used as a thermal stabilizer for the PVC during processing.
